i just got finished writing an english paper. i know it wasnt very good, but i also know that it wasnt very bad. i started it yesterday, finished it yesterday, and handed it in about 20 minutes ago. i will probably get a B on it.
i also had a calculus test today. i think i did well on it. i started studying this morning and took it at 11:30. i'm thinking somewhere in the A- to B+ range.
i'm not trying to brag or anything, but it does devolop a thought in my head. why is it that people wait until the last second to do things when they know about it forever in advance? its simple.
it might sound illogical, but i think people take more pride half-assing things that they dont want to do rather than when they spend a lot of time on it. i remember the day when i used to actually put thought into writing papers. i'd work so hard trying the make the best paper possible, while in the meantime impressing my teacher...
...it was the spring of '01 and i was a junior at unity christian high school. we had a research paper due in our english 11 class. i knew i should probably get a decent grade on this paper, so i decided to work hard on it. in my opinion, the paper was one of the most glorious creations ever to have graced the halls of unity. the day came when we got our papers back. my teacher made a point to compliment my hard work as he handed me my pure gold inside a large manilla envelope. i opened it, looked at my paper, and a smile came to my face because there were no red pen marks except for maybe a punctuation mistake. my joy turned to disappointment as i realized there was an additional grading sheet in the envelope that just ripped apart my paper. he gave me a B.
later that day, i gave him a B when i told him he was full of bullshit.
so thats why i dont think twice about papers til their due.
(the bullshit part is untrue, but it would have been pretty raw, huh?) |
